I CAUGHT CRIPPEN

Hardback, 1st edn. in RARE DUST JACKET. Inspector Dew was the first policeman on the scene of the Mary Jane Kelly murder (allegedly) and tells how clue after clue was followed up and how near the police were 'to laying their hands on the probable murderer.(pp. 85-163 incl. 'The Hunt for Jack the Ripper'). Dew's other claim to fame of course was the fact that he was the man who caught Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen. He was in charge of the case from the time Belle Elmore disappeared up to the time of Crippen's arrest and trial. Also includes shorter accounts of many other crimes - fraud, blackmail, coining, burglary etc. A vivid account of Dew's life at Scotland Yard. With 4 b/w plates. 242pp. 8vo. h/back. A superb copy in an incredibly scarce dw. (only the 2nd dw I've seen in 40 years) of a Jack the Ripper related title. F. in protected dw. which has sunned sp., head/tail with sl. wear and two tiny holes mid-section, small nick to lower corner of back cover (see image) o/w Vg+.
