The earliest 'place of detention' in Hendon was found in documents dated 1796, which refer to a cage, located at the junction of Bell Lane and Brent Street. Parish cages and lock-ups, however, were known to have been in use as far back as the 13th century. Profusely Illus. 152pp. 4to. softcover.
