Hardback. Tr. by Sir Frederick Charles Lascelles Wraxall (3rd Bart). A book suppressed by the French Government, possibly embarrassed by the author's revelations about the working of the Police system in France, which countenanced criminals in the hope that they may betray their companions. The book, no longer able to be read in French, was translated by Lascelles Wraxall, who was able to obtain his copy prior to the prohibition. 315pp. 16mo. h/back. Lightly browned edges and eps, tiny bookseller's label to fpd, corners and edges rubbed, re-backed cloth sp. Overall general shelf-wear but still a Vg. copy of a Rare true crime French police title.
