Until fairly recently, the only known copy was thought to have been either lost or stolen from the Library of Congress in the early 1900s. Early in 2002, an original copy appeared on the online auction site eBay; it sold for $2,325. In 2006, the buyer decided to sell his entire Ripper collection, including the 'Hayne'. The book was eventually purchased by Thomas Schachner, author of the German non-fiction book 'Jack the Ripper: Anatomie einer Legende'. Thomas has reproduced this rarest of Jack the Ripper publications. A superb facsimile, which has been limited to 50 numbered copies, this being 42/50.
